I take this opportunity to invite you to Bilaspur in particular, for the Chhattisgarh Association of Physicians 14TH Annual Scientific Conference.
This year’s Theme is “Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD): The Emerging Crisis” with Subthemes of National Policy, Disease Burden and Prevention Strategies.
There are major challenges associated with the rapid rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low and middle-income countries. These diseases, which include stroke, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes mellitus and chronic obstructive respiratory diseases, are among the leading causes of premature death and morbidity in low-and middle-income countries. They share common risk factors: high salt intake, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and tobacco use and alcohol misuse. Currently there is gross lack of local data, disease burden mapping, national and regional policy that address the common NCD risk factors.
We as physicians have a major and significant role to play in stemming this crisis. We can generate high-quality local evidence by virtue of our representation throughout the republic in different counties. We can carry out population-wide programs and community-based interventions that address the common NCD risk factors. Primary health care interventions for NCD prevention and control are the target aim. It is a challenge that we as physicians must embrace.
During this conference we shall have presentations on various issues regarding Policy, Disease Burden and Prevention Strategies as pertains to NCDs. I urge you to participate fully in the various deliberations.
. During this conference you will all have an opportunity to interact with our colleagues who are rolling out this program in the country. There will be scientific presentations and various illustrations on this topic.
